The End (For Now)

My experience in IS101 has had it's ups and downs I'm just glad that the class part is pretty much over. There were tons of things that I've never experienced in other classes in this class, so every time I sat down to do my assignments I felt a little disoriented, very eye opening. But we learned many essential skills that'll be great to use for our future careers. This course really hardened my skin to prepare for any other classes I might take. And I do appreciate all the help that was offered from Professor Wu, it shows that he cares about his students doing well.

I chose 6.8.1 Media Formatting to discuss. You can crop and resize your images to fit where it looks best on your slide giving you lots of freedom of creativity. But be careful resizing your images from the side and not the corner can distort the image. It's relatively best to drag the image from the arrows on the corner so it's proportional. You can also align the image to different positions on the slide depending on your needs. Choosing a style is another way to express your creativity with your images. It's generally a good idea to keep every image on every slide in the same style. With videos you can insert them from linking the URL, uploading them from your computer, or from the stock videos option on the ribbon. The same actions that are available to you with images applies to videos, but its not really recommended.

My slideshow was something I tried to be creative with. It's not really my best work aesthetically, but with help from Professor Wu it improved professionally.

I don't have much else to say except I wish you all luck in your future endeavors. And I'll end with a question that any one reading this can answer while commenting if they'd like to: What's your favorite song at the moment?

Phase 2 and Beyond

The second Phase of IS101 is more difficult than I anticipated. I expected it to be harder, but the amount of concepts in Excel that I have never experienced was very surprising. Doing A6 Spreadsheet with Analysis Trailer was fine. I made some mistakes at first but now I'm more knowledgeable on how to format stuff like that so it prints better while also being more pleasant to read.

The chapter I chose for my third post is 5.10.4 VLOOKUP. This function is used when trying to find specific information within a large amount of data. VLOOKUP takes four arguments the cell/data you're looking for, the table that the information is in, the column number that the data is in, and whether you want Excel to match the approximate value (1/TRUE) or the exact match (0/FALSE). You can copy the formula by setting the lookup value and table array as absolute values by pressing F4 while they're selected. You can change the column if needed.

Outside of Phase 2 of IS101 I think I'll be able to use my knowledge of Excel and transfer it to my current job right now to create schedules. I'll also be able to use it in the future for different career options. Excel is a very valuable skill to have on you're resume and for general knowledge.

In this next coming Phase, I hope I'll be able the finish assignments earlier and not just on time so I don't leave it to the last minute and stress about it. I will also try and be better with asking questions and looking for help without being afraid of sounding unintelligent.

Phase 1, Not Too Horrible

I don't think I did too bad during Phase 1 of IS101. In the future I'll try to procrastinate less so I'm not as stressed as I made myself in the first half of this class. Learning excel seems more difficult than word so I'll try and practice it more often.

For my topic I chose 4.7.4 - 3D Models. A 3D model on a computer tries to replicate how the dimensions of the model would look in person. Typically you can move these models around with your mouse to see the object in different perspectives. 3D models are made up of lines, curves, or geometric shapes. Then after the shape is made the models go through a process called "texture mapping" to make them look more realistic. These models are used in many different areas from medicine to video games. They can be used in excel, word, and PowerPoint as well. You can add them by using the "insert" tab under "3D Models". Depending on what you need you can either use a stock model or upload your own from your downloads.

To prepare for the MO-110 Word certification exam I focused mostly on taking in person notes to remind me how to navigate through word. Then I read them over and practiced the labs. This usually works the best for me.

I'm finally kind of getting used to how this class functions, so I'm a little less anxious. I've used some skills I've learned from this class at my job when I'm working on schedules which is really satisfying. I like making everything look nice and neat. Everything I used to do was manual so it took a lot longer, but now I have these little shortcuts that I didn't know of earlier.

Introduction Post - Jumping in Blind

Hello, my name is Izabelle Vison. I'm a student at the College of Southern Nevada, pursuing my Associates in Business, specifically for Accounting. This blog post is for my IS101 - Information Systems class. I hope by completing this class I can learn about how to navigate through the internet in a professional way, how to use excel, and pass my exams.

My first impression of my IS101 class was that it was overwhelming. This class presents many challenges that I have not faced in my schooling so far. The assignments are very intricate, personally they take me very long to finish. It's difficult to juggle this class with the job that I have, where I have to go to and from work and home during the day. I've also never had a professor that interacts with the students outside of class as much, which is something to be grateful for, but for me it's very nerve-racking. Maybe it's nerve-racking because I'm not used to it, I'm not sure. The class is generous with beneficial information for your future. So, even though this class doesn't function in a way I prefer, I'm stepping out of my comfort zone and finishing it to the end.

The skill I chose from Labsim is 1.4.12 - Encryption and Authentication Facts. From this section in Labsim I learned that you can tell if a URL is secure or not by looking at the HTTPS. HTTP means Hypertext Transfer Protocol, which is a protocol used to transfer data between the browser and the website itself. When the website has just HTTP, that mean the data is non-encrypted plain text, you should never enter your information on websites that just have HTTP in the URL. By using TLS or Transport Layer Security, the HTTP is now visibly HTTPS which means Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure. This means that the data is now both transmitted and encrypted. Encryption means that the data gets scrambled for people who don't have the correct key code, so it can keep your user specific information safe. For WIFI, the most secure encryption right now is WPA2 (WIFI Protected Access 2), be sure not to use the previous WPA and to keep the firmware up to date. Authentication is the process in which a computer asks the user to prove they are who they claim to be. While usernames and passwords are the most common form of authentication, there is also bio authentication. Bio authentication includes facial scans, finger print readers, vocal recognition, and more. One of the most important things you can have is a good password, some key aspects to having a good password is having 12 or more mixed characters including capitalized letters, numbers, and symbols. Make sure to keep the accurate password in a safe place to access later, and memorize it the best you can.

I'm still exploring other schooling options to see what I am proficient in so I can be successful and comfortable in the future. I hope people are able to be patient with me while I figure out how I would like my future to go.
